As a kid, I used to love it when Dad would rent a car to get home from the airport after a business trip. Even though Mom would have happily picked him up at the airport, he still liked to occasionally rent a car because it was fun to try out new ones for the weekend. I can remember Dad pulling up the driveway in a brand new white rented 1977 Monte Carlo, and taking us all out for ice cream and a movie. Ah, those were the good ole days.

FILL UP THE TANK...OR ELSE

Everyone who has ever rented a car in this century knows the policy about returning with a full tank of gas or end up paying to have it filled at a rate often double or triple the average cost of the fuel.  Logic tells us therefore to fill er up at a local gas station just prior to returning the vehicle. That is exactly what I did two weeks ago, and STILL ended up having to pay $18.00 more for fuel.  Here’s what happened; I was in Austin Texas returning a vehicle to Advantage car rental. I stopped at the nearby Texaco station, proceeded to put $25.00 worth of gas in the tank, checked the gage, it read Full.
